3 Reasons Why E! News Gets More Engagement Than TMZ

It’s no surprise that E! News is the go-to news entertainment outlet. They always have the latest gossip and are often very credible. The engagement they have is also another reason people find their posts click worthy. Looking at their main competitor, TMZ, there are three main reason why E! News out does them every single time.

1. The Posh Posts of E! News

E! News keeps their posts classy and entertaining. Often times on social media, TMZ will “expose” or broadcast news that is harmful to celebrities and this gives them a bad name. Across all platforms, E! News keeps their content professional and creditable. For example, on February 9, on their Twitter and Instagram, E! News posted about their excitement for the Grammy’s. The Following day TMZ posted on their Twitter about how 2018 Grammy’s were better than the 2019 Grammy’s. E! News keeps it posh and positive compared to TMZ.

2. The Perfect Timing

According to Sprout Social, the best time to post on Twitter is Friday at 10 and 11AM. TMZ seems to have no kind of system for their posting. They post at 5AM and they also post at 5PM. However, E! News seems to strategically post. They never post on Sunday nights, which is the worst time to post, and they always find a way to engage followers by posting the right times. This can be seen on their Instagram and their Facebook.

They also find the best times to post on those platforms as well. For example, the best time to post on Facebook is in the middle of the day on Wednesday and Thursday. According to some research done by my classmates, this is where you can see the most engagement from followers on these platforms. TMZ does not post mid day on Facebook and often posts content that has already been posted on their Instagram and Twitter (BORING!). E! News Clearly knows when to post to engage followers compared to TMZ.

3. Response Time on Point

I decided to do an experiment and I tweeted at E! News. A lot of their general comments across all social media platforms are usually comment-oriented rather than question-based. Many of E! News responses are to positive comments and this is something that is also common when looking at TMZ. I decided to ask E! News who their favorite Kardashian was since the very public family is the basis of a lot of their news.  The response time was four minutes and about 30 seconds. This somewhat surprised me but expected them to answer me considering my comment was positive. TMZ, on the other hand, was horrible at responding and rarely response to negative or positive content.

Although E! News replied in a timely manner, something I found was they do not reply to negative comments on any social media platforms. According to QS, this is a huge no-no. It’s important to response to all comments, negative and positive, it shows followers you care about their thoughts and concerns. Leaving the comment on read simply reinstate that the commenters interpretation of the message was true.

The engagement of E! News is clearly much more involved and responsive than that of TMZ across all social media platforms. I found these findings not surprising in the slightest. What do you think? Does E! News out do TMZ with overall engagement? Comment your thoughts below.

  1. Honestly E! News really is one of the best forums for celebrity gossip. Their social media platforms are vibrant, timely, on point! Meanwhile, TMZ really is lacking behind. No wonder E! News is one of the most popular destinations for this type of news. Great post! 😄

  2. Annie, I totally agree with you! E! News does an excellent job of keeping up with their comments on social media, I do have to say that it sounds like a tactic to only reply to positive comments, so people only leave positive comments. But, I do agree with Qs that they should reply to all comments. Great article!

  3. Great in-depth post! I’m surprised that E! News got back to you so quickly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a large company/personality reply to someone so fast. But they should also reply to negative comments!

  4. Great post! I agree, it’s a no-brainer that E! beats TMZ, but I was surprised to hear about the responses: both the fact that they got back to you so quickly and that they don’t respond to negativity.
